"RELAY FOR LIFE" SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 4
HAMMOND On Saturday, November 4, friends, families, students and co-workers
will team up and lace up their tennis shoes for the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life."
The race and festivities start at 8 a.m. at Southeastern Louisiana University's Strawberry Stadium
and end at 8 p.m.
"Relay for Life" is a unique and fun-filled day of competition and fundraising. Teams of
10 to 15 people will compete to raise the most money with donations from the community for the
fight against cancer. Unlike the typical relay, only one team member walks, jogs or runs at a time
while his/her fellow teammates enjoy a day of picnicking, food, camaraderie and entertainment.
Awards will be given at the end of the day for best decorated campsite, most money
raised for a team, most money raised by an individual and a bean cook-off.
The American Cancer Society of Louisiana consists of more than 20,000 volunteers who
dedicate their time through research, education, advocacy and service, in order to eliminate
cancer as a major health problem.
Individuals interested in joining a team, volunteering or signing up a team, call 504-345-
8133.
