SLU DANCEWORKS PRESENTS “RANGE OF MOTION”
HAMMOND –Southeastern Louisiana
University’s resident dance company, Danceworks, along with Impulse Dance
Theatre from the Louisiana School for Math, Science and Art, will present
“Range of Motion” Thursday, March 20 at Vonnie Borden Theatre.
Directed by Southeastern dance
professor Martie Fellom, the free performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The concert will include choreography by Randy Allen, director of Impulse
Dance Theatre, and Southeastern students Jessica Burke of Mandeville, Michele
Cudd of Hammond, Ronee Klingman of Baton Rouge, and Alison Maraman and
Ashley Roberts of Slidell, all of whom will also perform.
The nine part program will feature
three dances choreographed by Allen and starring the Impulse Dance Theatre
dancers. “A Thunder in the Heart,”set to the music of Kudo, a traditional
Japanese drum corps, is fast paced dance, beginning and ending with sharp
and powerful movement. “Majestic Flight,” set to Loreena McKennitt’s music,
transforms from a moving lyrical solo to a driving group dance with scarves.
Closing out Allen’s choreography is “Mobyessence,” an 11 section piece
ranging in style and dynamics set to the music of Moby.
Allen, a dancer, choreographer,
musician, director, and instructor of modern dance, jazz and ballet, is
a graduate of Florida State University. He has performed and danced extensively
in France with Jean-Marc Matos and Company and in New York with June Finch
