SLU ROCK ‘N ROAR ADDS 5K RUN TO MARCH 20 SCHEDULE
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University’s Rock ‘n Roar Fest has added a fast-paced event to its March
20 schedule, the Southeastern 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser for Women’s Soccer.
Slated to begin at 10 a.m., the
run/walk will take place on Southeastern’s North Campus adjacent to the
textbook rental store. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund the
purchase of equipment for Southeastern’s women’s soccer program.
The walking route will take the
University Avenue underpass, going left to North Oak and following that
street south to Dakota Street. Turning right on Dakota, the route will
take General Pershing back to North Campus and the textbook rental building
via the underpass.
The runners’ route is similar,
but will include a loop to the Human Resources Building on the northwest
end of North Campus.
Registration for the Southeastern
5K Run/Walk Fundraiser for Women’s Soccer is $20, payable on the morning
of the race or in advance by calling 985-549-5485.
Kathy Pittman, Southeastern alumni
director, reminds participants that Rock ‘n Roar VIII activities are just
another short walk to the War Memorial Student Union area. Scheduled for
8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rock ‘n Roar includes a the Hammond Downtown Development
District’s Saturday farmers market, Southeastern School of Nursing’s health
fair, a plant sale, arts and crafts booths, and music and entertainment
provided throughout the day.
“Also for the kids we’ll have
adventure in the petting zoo, popular camps, the University Police Department's
free KidCare Photo I.D. program, displays of motorcycles and police cars,
and a space walk,” said Pittman.
