SOUTHEASTERN INDUCTS STUDENTS INTO FOREIGN
LANGUAGES HONOR SOCIETY
HAMMOND -- Ten Southeastern
Louisiana University students have been installed as members of the university's
chapter of Phi Sigma Iota, an international foreign language honor society.
"Phi Sigma Iota is the
highest academic honor anywhere in the field of foreign languages and literatures,"
said professor of Spanish Agnieszka Gutthy, the chapter's faculty advisor.
"It recognizes outstanding ability and high standards of students and faculty
of foreign languages, literatures and cultures."
She said the 10 students
invited to join the society were selected because of their academic distinction
in one or more foreign languages as well as their general college coursework.
The inductees are majoring or minoring in Spanish, French, Italian, and
Latin.
The inducted students are:
Julie Howell, Baton Rouge; Silaine Warn-Varnas, Slidell; Bridget Hester,
Tickfaw; Jennifer Martin, Walker; Heidi Adams, Pride; Keri Frisard, Covington;
Renee Gamble, Lockport; Abrille Johnson, Hammond; Amanda Durapau, Hammond;
and Jennifer Price, Ponchatoula. |
