SLU TO HOST 500 COLLEGE STUDENTS AT REGIONAL NATS
CONFERENCE
HAMMOND -- More than 500 college
students from Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas will gather at Southeastern
Louisiana University November 7-9 for the National Association of Teachers
of Singing Southern Region Conference and Student Auditions.
During the conference, hosted
by the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, tenor Daniel Weeks, and pianist
Donna Hallen Loewy will present a guest recital at the Columbia Theatre
for the Performing Arts.
The recital is scheduled for
7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. Tickets, $10 general admission, will be
available at the door.
Weeks is sponsored by the Marilyn
Horne Foundation and has appeared all over the United States as recitalist
and opera singer. A guest of Southeastern’s Fanfare festival in 2000, he
was a 1999 national finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council
Auditions and won the National Federation of Music Club’s Young Artist
Competition. The Marilyn Horne Foundation recently presented Weeks in his
New York City debut.
Loewy is professor of accompanying
and accompanist-in-residence at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati,
Ohio. She has prepared and accompanied many top prize winners and performs
as a collaborative pianist throughout the United States.
The guest artists also will present
four residencies and performances for students at Covington High School,
Mandeville High School and Ponchatoula High School on November 4 and 5
as part of The Marilyn Horne Foundation residency program for artists. |
