MOFFETT SELECTED CHAIR-ELECT
OF SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE BOARD
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana
University President Randy Moffett has been selected to serve as Chair-Elect
of the Southland Conference Board of Directors.
In this capacity, Moffett will
work closely with current Chair Jimmy Simmons, president of Lamar University,
and conference Commissioner Tom Burnett in overseeing the organization’s
affairs. Moffett will assume the post of chair this fall, leading the 11-member
board for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 academic years. The board is charged
with establishing policy and making major decisions regarding conference
business.
The Southland Conference sponsors
17 championship sports, all at the NCAA Division I level, for 11 Texas
and Louisiana universities. Southland institutions encompass over 150,000
current students and an alumni base of nearly 700,000.
The conference is headquartered
in Plano, Tex. In addition to Southeastern and Lamar, Southland Conference
institutions include McNeese State University, Northwestern State University,
Nicholls State University, Sam Houston State University, Southwest Texas
State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, University of Louisiana-Monroe,
University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of Texas at San Antonio. |
