ASSOCIATE STATE SUPREME COURT
JUSTICE PRESENTS LIVINGSTON LECTURE APRIL 20
HAMMOND -- Associate Justice
Catherine D. “Kitty” Kimball of the Louisiana Supreme Court will present
Southeastern Louisiana University's annual James Livingston Memorial Lecture
on Business Ethics at 7 p.m., April 20, in Southeastern’s Student Union
Theatre.
The lecture, co-sponsored
by the College of Business and Technology and Arts and Lectures Committee,
is free and open to the public. The lecture series was founded in 1984
by Hammond businessman John O. Batson in memory of his long-time friend
and associate James Livingston.
Kimball has served Louisiana
as Associate Justice on the Supreme Court since her election in 1992. She
was reelected in 1998 without opposition. She also serves as an adjunct
professor of law at Tulane Law School’s Summer Abroad program.
After graduating in 1963
from Bolton High School in Alexandria, La., Kimball earned her juris doctorate
from Louisiana State University in 1970. She worked as a law clerk in the
United States District Court, Western District of Louisiana; as special
counsel in the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office; and as general counsel
for the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal
Justice.
Kimball managed her private
law practice from 1975-1982 while also serving as Assistant District Attorney
for the 18th Judicial District. She was elected District Judge, Division
A, for the 18th Judicial District and served in that capacity until her
election to the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Among the honors Kimball
has earned are induction into the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert
Law Center Hall of Fame and selection as the 1999 outstanding alumnus of
the LSU Law Center. She holds membership in many professional memberships
and activities, including the Louisiana Coordinating Council on Domestic
Violence.
