SOUTHEASTERN’S LEON HONORED -- Southeastern Louisiana University senior nursing major Jodi Keating of Covington, right, Louisiana Female Resident Assistant of the Year, presents Steve Leon, director of Auxiliary Services, with the Louisiana Association of Housing Officers’ Distinguished Service Award.

SOUTHEASTERN’S LEON RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE TO STUDENT HOUSING
HAMMOND -- Steve Leon, director of Auxiliary Services at Southeastern Louisiana University, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Louisiana Association of Housing Officers.
Leon’s honor was announced at the annual LAHO “Equipping Resident Assistants” conference in March. Southeastern senior nursing major Jodi Keating of Covington, Louisiana Female Resident Assistant of the Year, and LAHO President Aime Anderson, the university’s student housing director, presented him with the award plaque at a Southeastern Division of Student Affairs brown bag luncheon on March 31.
Leon was nominated for the service award by Southeastern’s Student Housing and Residential Services department, which he directed for more than 15 years before being named head of auxiliaries. Leon was one of the founding members of LAHO and developed the ERA conference.
“Although he has many other responsibilities, he still focuses on the residential community and providing the best housing for our resident students at the most affordable cost,” said Anderson. She pointed out that Leon is “a key player” in Southeastern’s on-going multi-million dollar project to replace all of its older housing with new student-focused residential facilities. “This is a huge undertaking, and would not be successful without Steve Leon’s experience and knowledge of housing and residence life,” Anderson said.
