SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS BILINGUAL
EDUCATION CONFERENCE -- Approximately 60 educators from across Louisiana
gathered at Southeastern Louisiana University in December for the 27th
annual conference of the Louisiana Association for Bilingual Education
(LABE). The new officers of the LABE executive board, announced at the
conference luncheon, are, from left, Erin Arnold, membership chair; Josh
Posey, vice-president; Esperanza Ramos, treasurer; Eva Smith, historian;
Rossana Boyd, newsletter editor; Sylvia Clay, parent representative; Barbara
Burke, secretary; and Beth Thomas, past president. Boyd, Thomas, and Posey
are employees of Southeastern involved with the ESL add-on certification
program and Boyd's Title III professional development grant, Project TEACH.
"The conference was a success for both the LABE organization and for Southeastern.
Even with somewhat short notice, a sizeable and diverse group of educators
traveled here from across the state," Boyd said. Special guests at the
conference included Hammond Mayor Mayson Foster, who touted the progress
that Southeastern and its home city continue to make and presented a key
to the city to Thomas. |
