SOUTHEASTERN CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WEEK NOV. 18-22
      HAMMOND - Southeastern Louisiana University will salute international students and celebrate the world’s diverse culture and heritage with a series of activities, lectures and concerts during International Week, November 18-22.
      “There are 177 international students from 52 countries who have left their homes to pursue higher education at Southeastern,” said Eric Summers, director of multicultural and international affairs. “The week’s activities recognize these students and ensure that they feel welcome and appreciated in a new atmosphere.” 
      International Week was originally created and  sponsored by the International Student Association, but this year Brad O’Hara, vice president for student affairs, said the celebration’s scope has been expanded by involving all international oriented organizations on campus.  
      “This year International Week will not only serve as a means of welcoming international students, but it will also encourage all Southeastern students to become global citizens, allowing them to function successfully in a diverse and changing world,” said O’Hara.
      The kick-off celebration will begin Monday, November 18 at 7 p.m. with International Night in the Student Union Ballroom, featuring the talent of Southeastern students. Domino’s Pizza, Jambalaya & Co., La Carretta, Old Mc Donald’s, Pizza Inn, Roosters Chicken, Coop DeVille, Shoney’s and Sicily’s Pizza will donate food. Admission is $5.
      On Tuesday, November 19, at 11 a.m., Joseph Ganitsky, professor of international business at Loyola University in New Orleans, will give the keynote address,  “Challenges 
and Opportunity of Multinational Corporations in the Economic and Social Development of Latin American,” at the Student Union Theatre. The celebration will continue at 3 p.m. with a
presentation entitled, “Colombia...a Country of Contrast” in room 233 of the Student Union.
      On Wednesday, November 20, the Campus Activities Board will host its annual International Comedy Show featuring international comics.  The show begins at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre and admission is free with student I.D.
      At noon on Thursday, November 21, an international fashion show will be staged in the Student Union Mall, followed by a. 2 p.m. concert in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium, featuring Southeastern’s string quartet and other invited performers. 
      International Week also will feature an international art exhibit in Sims Memorial Library. Students can learn more about the university’s study abroad activities through displays in the Student Union Mall from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22. 
      “This years International Week will be a celebration you’ll never forget,” said Summers. “It’s an invitation for all students to indulge in a culture beyond their own, and experience a new world of art, entertainment and heritage.” 
      Participating in the week’s activities are the Campus Activities Board, Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, Student Government Association, Center for Latin American Business and Development, Department of Foreign Languages, Office of Multicultural and International Affairs, Sims Memorial Library, and Office of International Initiatives.
