LOCAL STUDENTS WIN INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF BLUES-FANFARE ART COMPETITION 
     HAMMOND -- Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University=s annual fall arts festival, has again joined with the International House of Blues Foundation and its Blues Schoolhouse Program to sponsor an art competition for local school children. 
     “This was a banner year for the House of Blues art contest,” said Keiron Couret, associate director of programming for Fanfare and the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts. Couret, who coordinates Fanfare and Columbia educational outreach activities, said 81 fifth grade through high school students from around the region submitted entries of original artwork, created from recycled or natural materials. 
     This is the fifth year that Fanfare and the House of Blues Foundation have sponsored the contest. The participating artists have been invited to a special program at the House of Blues in New Orleans on Oct. 27, Couret said.
     The students’ art is on display in the lobby of the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, 220 E. Thomas St. in Hammond.
     2004 International House of Blues Foundation art competition winners are:
     First place: Seth Chadwick, 10th grade, Amite High School; Dalton Smith, sixth grade, Champ Cooper School; Angela Emslander, ninth grade, Hammond High School; Gabrielle Blades, eighth grade, Holy Ghost School; Gurpreet Kaur, 11th grade, Independence High School; Holly Milazzo, 12th grade, Independence High School; Robby Klein, ninth grade, Ponchatoula High School; Atifa Naeem, seventh grade, Southeastern Lab School; and Wilson Sharp, fifth grade, Southeastern Lab School.
