SOUTHEASTERN MOVES HOMECOMING CELEBRATION TO NOV. 12
HAMMOND – Southeastern
Louisiana University’s plans for Homecoming 2005 have not been blown away,
just whisked to a new date.
Originally scheduled for
Oct. 3-8, the annual week-long spirit celebration has been moved to Nov.
7-12, said Alumni Director Kathy Pittman.
“The many challenges that
all of us have faced since Hurricane Katrina made it difficult to complete
our Homecoming plans by early October,” Pittman said. “But we’re now busily
planning for a great Homecoming week in November.”
She said the Homecoming
calendar will include many traditional favorites such as campus and community
decorating contests, students’ “Fear Factor” games night, Gumbo Ya Ya,
the FE-Lions luncheon, the Phi Kappa Phi Homecoming Quiz Bowl, and the
bonfire and pep rally.
Homecoming Day, Nov. 12,
will feature a full schedule of tailgating, children’s activities, campus
tours, the 3 p.m. Homecoming parade, and the 6 p.m. Lions vs. Nicholls
State football game in Strawberry Stadium. Senior football players will
be honored during pre-game festivities and the Homecoming queen will be
crowned at halftime.
Pittman said the annual
Alumni Awards Evening, traditionally held on the eve of Homecoming, is
being rescheduled. She also said that Homecoming reunion plans have been
dropped because of the displacement of many alumni by the hurricane and
the limited availability of local accommodations.
“However, all of our alumni
who are able to attend will be warmly welcome at our Alumni Association
tailgating area,” Pittman said. “We hope Homecoming 2005 will be a much-needed
diversion for the entire Southeastern family as we work toward recovering
from a difficult time.”
