GOSPEL CHOIR PRESENTS 30TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT SATURDAY
HAMMOND -- The popular Southeastern Louisiana University Gospel Choir will present its 30th anniversary concert at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at Sweet Home Baptist Church, located on Hwy. 190 in Albany.
Director Shaun Doughty of Amite said the theme of the concert is “The Best is Yet to Come.” He said that in addition to the 35-member choir, the evening will also feature former Gospel Choir members in an alumni chorus and local gospel groups such as Jarvis Lathen and Promise Chorale of Kenner.
The current and former Gospel Choir singers will combine their voices for the concert’s finale, “I Need You” by Hezekiah Walker, Doughty said.
The Southeastern Gospel Choir was founded in 1973 by Larry Hood, now a minister in the Baton Rouge area. The choir, recognized as a Southeastern student organization, performs throughout the year at various community and university events. Drerrick Barnes of Greensburg is the choir’s president.
