SOUTHEASTERN AUTHOR BARBARA FORREST TO SIGN BOOK MAY 22
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana
University philosophy professor Barbara Forrest will sign copies of her
book, “Creationism’s Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design,” from
6-8 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at Books-A-Million in Hammond.
Published by Oxford University
Press and co-authored by Paul Gross, Forrest’s book examines “Intelligent
Design,” described as “the newest form of American creationism.”
Explaining and analyzing what
“design theorists” call their “Wedge Strategy,” the authors document the
Wedge’s aggressive political and public relations campaigning and what
they describe as its “failure after a decade to produce any scientific
data.” The book details intelligent design proponents’ efforts to influence
state science standards and federal education legislation. Additional information
is available online at www.creationismstrojanhorse.com.
Forrest earned her bachelor’s degree
in English at Southeastern and master’s and doctoral degrees in philosophy
at Louisiana State University and Tulane University, respectively. She
has taught philosophy at Southeastern since 1981, as well as freshman western
civilization surveys, a course on the Holocaust, and a graduate seminar
in the history of western thought.
She is the recipient of Southeastern’s
prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and is also the
Women's Hospital Distinguished Teaching Professor. She received the Friend
of Darwin Award from the National Center for Science Education, and the
Alex Allain Intellectual Freedom Award from the Louisiana Library Association/SIRS. |
