FRENCH SCHOLARSHIP  -- Frances Marley of De La Salle High School, left, was awarded a scholarship by the French Community of Belgium at Southeastern Louisiana University’s 21st Annual Foreign Language Festival on April 10. The all-expenses-paid scholarship will allow Marley to attend a four-week summer immersion program at the Université de Mons in Mons, Belgium this summer. SOUTHEASTERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL WINNERS (HAMMOND) – Hammond High School student Tatum Spallino was among the first place winners at the 21st annual Southeastern Louisiana University Foreign Languages Festival on April 10. Spallino took first place in the Spanish Prose I category.


SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS ANNUAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL 
      HAMMOND – The 21st annual Foreign Language Festival at Southeastern Louisiana University awarded top honors to Mount Carmel Academy of New Orleans and St. Thomas Aquinas High School of Hammond.
      The St. Paul’s School was named the Best Overall School in Spanish, and Archbishop Chappelle High School received the highest overall honors in French.
      The festival, held Thursday, April 10 at the University Center, drew 20 schools from surrounding parishes to participate in Spanish and French poetry, prose, and extemporaneous speaking categories and as groups in music and plays. 
      Frances Marley of De La Salle High School was awarded a scholarship by the French Community of Belgium. The all-expenses-paid scholarship will allow Marley to attend a four-week summer immersion program at the Université de Mons in Mons, Belgium this summer. 
      Other participating schools were Ponchatoula High School, John Ehret High School, Live Oak High School, Hahnville High School, Hammond High School, Immaculata High School, L.W. Higgins High School, Grace King High School, Holy Cross High School, Catholic High School, Destrehan High School, St. Scholastica Academy, Springfield High School, Christian Family Academy, and Central High School.
      In the Spanish music category, school winners were The St. Paul’s School, first; Grace King High School, second; and John Ehret High School, third.  The Spanish play or drama winner were St. Scholastica Academy, first; The St. Paul’s School, second; and Ponchatoula High School, third.
      In French music, Archbishop Chappelle High School took first place; Hammond High School, second; and Ponchatoula High School, third.  Live Oak High School placed first in French play or drama; John Ehret High School, second; and St. Scholastica Academy, third.
