HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPETE AT SOUTHEASTERN ENGLISH DAY
     HAMMOND -- Area high school students and their teachers attended English classes
and competed in a variety of writing competitions at Southeastern Louisiana University's annual
English Day on November 1.
     Approximately 60 students participated from Hammond High School, Ponchatoula High
School, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Loranger High School. Albany High School, Denham
Springs High School Springfield High School, Franklinton High School and Pearl River High
School.
     Pearl River High students took all three awards in the creative writing category. Winners
were Jacqueline Moore, first; Brandon Garrett, second, and Melissa Sedvish, third.
     In the expository writing category, award winners were Jared Lorio, St. Thomas Aquinas
High, first; Nasheed Jamal, Hammond High, second, and Joe Vandigo, Ponchatoula High, third.
     The technical/professional writing awards went to Whitney Allen, Hammond High, first;
Matt Stogner, Albany High, second, and Cate Mathes, Ponchatoula High, third.
