COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS -- At its annual honors convocation on May 1, Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Education and Human Development named the late Leonard Monteleone as it’s outstanding alumnus. A 1968 Southeastern graduate, Monteleone’s long career in education included serving as superintendent of St. Tammany Parish public school system from 1995 until his death earlier this year. His wife Lyn, center, accepted the posthumous award. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT OUTSTANDING PARTNER -- The Tangipahoa Parish School Board was named the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development’s outstanding partnership at the college’s annual honors convocation on May 1. The school board was recognized for establishing a new Counselor Training Lab at Hammond Westside Upper Elementary that  gives Southeastern school counseling students a setting for hands-on experience and the school system a way to providing counseling services to elementary grades. SOUTHEASTERN EMERITUS PROFESSOR RECOGNIZED -- Thomas Tedder, Professor Emeritus of Education at Southeastern Louisiana University, was recognized as a founding member of the Louisiana Council of Professors of Educational Administration (LCPEA) during the university’s College of Education and Human Development honors convocation on May 1. SLU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT HONORS TOP STUDENTS
      HAMMOND – Education majors Roslyn Lea of Kentwood and Robert Tate Jr. of Mandeville received the Outstanding Student Teacher awards at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development honors convocation on May 1.
      Lea, who graduated in December 2002 in communication education, received the college’s top award in the secondary education category. She was selected from among two nominees, including Franklin Anthony Filpi of Hammond, who also was named Outstanding Senior in English Education. 
      Tate, who has chosen teaching as a second career after serving 28 years in the United States Navy, was named top student teacher in elementary education. A student teacher at Boyet Jr. High School in Slidell, he garnered the honor from among three nominees, including Tiffany Hebert of Denham Springs and Patti Holden of Pearl River.
      At the 11 a.m. ceremony in the Cate Teacher Education Center Kiva, the college also recognized as its outstanding alumnus, the late Leonard Monteleone, a 1968 Southeastern graduate whose long career in education included serving as superintendent of St. Tammany Parish public school system from 1995 until his death earlier this year. His wife Lyn accepted the posthumous award. In addition to his more than three decades as a teacher, coach, supervisor and superintendent, Monteleone was an active member of Southeastern’s Alumni Association board of directors.
      The Tangipahoa Parish School Board was named the college’s outstanding partnership for establishing a new Counselor Training Lab at Hammond Westside Upper Elementary. The 
lab gives Southeastern school counseling students a setting for hands-on experience and the school system a way to providing counseling services to elementary grades. 
      Also at the ceremony, Flo Hill, vice president of the Louisiana Council of Professors of Educational Administration, recognized Thomas Tedder, Professor Emeritus of Education, as one of the founding members of the organization, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
      The college also announced departmental honors and scholarships and new members of the honor societies Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Alpha and the Thirteen Club. 
      Students receiving departmental honors and scholarships included:
      HAMMOND – Angela Puglia, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant recipient; Denise Owens, Minnie Bond Grant-in-Aid Program Scholarship.
      LORANGER – Chantal Robinson, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant recipient.
      INDEPENDENCE – Brandon Paille, Outstanding Senior in Health and Physical Education; Gary Buccere, Outstanding Senior in Mathematics Education.
      PONCHATOULA – Emily Harper, Outstanding Senior in Social Work; Tammy Gautier, Exemplary Graduate in Special Education; Lauraleigh Pierre, Exemplary Secondary Education Alternate Certification Student. 
      PINE GROVE – Marilyn McMorris, Outstanding Senior in Social Studies Education.
      BATON ROUGE – Kimberly Eisenberg, Alan Keating Memorial Award for Outstanding Senior in Music Education; Rachel Kennedy, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant recipient.
      ALBANY – Seth Foster, Outstanding Senior in Health and Physical Education.
      LIVINGSTON – Aimee Spearman, Exemplary Graduate in Elementary Education.
      WALKER – Nancy Martin, Minnie Bond Grant-in-Aid Program Scholarship.
      COVINGTON – Gwendolyn Gole, Exemplary Special Education Alternative Certification Student.
