|FORUM SCHEDULED AT SOUTHEASTERN JUNE 30 FOR DISTRICT 6 SENATE CANDIDATES
HAMMOND -- The
two remaining candidates in the runoff for the District 6 Louisiana Senate
seat will face off in a 7 p.m. public forum at Southeastern Louisiana University
Thursday, June 30.
State Rep. Diane
G. Winston of Covington and Julie Quinn of Metairie, a former member of
the Jefferson Parish School Board, will answer questions from a panel at
the forum to be held in Southeastern’s Student Union Theatre. The candidates
– both Republicans – are vying for the seat held by the late Sen. John
Hainkel Jr. The runoff election will be held Saturday, July 9.
The event is sponsored by the
Southeastern Student Government Association, the Hammond Chamber of Commerce
and the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce. The forum will be broadcast
live over 90.9 KSLU and Northshore Broadcasting stations, including Tangi
96.5, Northshore 104.7, Sunny 106.1 and Kajun 107.1. KSLU will also stream
the forum live on the Internet at www.selu.edu/kslu.
The event will be moderated by
Maura Donahue, president of DonahueFavret Contractors Holding Company of
Mandeville. A member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of directors
since 1988, she was recently elected chair, the first woman elected to
the organization’s top spot. Panelists include Southeastern SGA President
Paul Donaldson of Folsom, a junior marketing major; Ricky Masaracchia,
a 20-year employee with the Louisiana Department of Labor and chairman
elect of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce; and Merrill Wautlet, senior vice
president of Resource Bank and chairman of the board of the St. Tammany
West Chamber of Commerce.
Candidates will make introductory
and wrap-up statements. Panelists’ questions will cover topics such as
economic development, education, health care and issues specific to the
north shore. The forum is scheduled to conclude at 8:15 p.m.
