SLU MAN, WOMAN OF THE YEAR -- Southeastern Louisiana University Vice President for Student Affairs Brad O’Hara, center, congratulates Lacey Shumaker, a senior marketing major from Slidell, right, and Sean Hale, a junior criminal justice major from Kenner, who were named “Outstanding Woman and Man of the Year” for 2003 by Southeastern’s Division of Student Affairs. The awards were presented at the recent Student Affairs honors convocation. Honorees are chosen from among nominees who have “made outstanding contributions to the university.”

LACEY SHUMAKER, SEAN HALE NAMED SOUTHEASTERN “WOMAN AND MAN OF THE YEAR”
      HAMMOND -- Lacey Shumaker of Slidell and Sean Hale of Kenner have been named “Outstanding Man and Woman of the Year” for 2003 by the Southeastern Louisiana University Division of Student Affairs.
      The awards were presented at the annual Student Affairs honors convocation. The honorees were selected by a committee of faculty, staff and graduate students from among female and male nominees who have “made outstanding contributions to the university,” said Brad O’Hara, vice president for student affairs.
      Shumaker, a senior marketing major, is the president of the Campus Activities Board, a member of Gamma Beta Phi, Ladies of the Green and Gold, Phi Kappa Phi, the Campus Judicial Board, Project Safe Campus, Beta Gamma Sigma, and the Public Relations Society.  She has served as a LEAD Retreat facilitator and is a resident hall assistant. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in Business Administration at Southeastern. At the ceremony, she also received the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Senior Award and Gamma Beta Phi’s David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship. 
      Hale, a junior criminal justice major, is a member of the Dream Team, a 2002 Orientation Leader, the 2003 Greek Week Chairman, and second vice president of the Interfraternity Council. He recently was elected president of Theta Chi fraternity. He also received the Student Foundation Leadership Award.
      Also at the annual honors convocation, Student Affairs presented its “Award of Excellence” to four active student organizations, the Lionettes, Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Society, Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and Gamma Beta Phi Service and Honor Society.
      Melissa Rene Miller of Gretna, a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority, was named the Panhellenic Council Greek Woman of the Year and Cliff Bo DeLouche of Destrehan, Delta Tau 
Delta fraternity, received the Interfraternity Council Greek Man of the Year. Delta Sigma Theta sorority’s Keyunta Perkins of Hammond was given the Ms. Pan-Hellenic Council Award.
      Latoya Self of Baton Rouge was named the African American Alumni Chapter Role Model of the Year and the David Ware and Associates’ Most Outstanding International Student Award went to Raghuveer Dodda of Hammond.
      Student Housing and Residential Services recognized Eddie Koch of Ponchatoula and Amanda Bode of Prairieville as Male and Female Residents of the Year, while Recreational Sports and Wellness presented its Employee of the Year Award to Adam Grantham of Bogalusa. Gamma Beta Phi presented its Outstanding Teacher honor to the computer sciences department’s Jill Galusha.
      Recreational Sports and Wellness’ intramural sports awards went to Lee Hall Women, resident hall points champion; Theta Xi, male Greek points champion; Sigma Sigma Sigma, female Greek points championship and “The Overhangs,” all-campus champion.

      BATON ROUGE: Kimberly Eisenberg, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award; Donta Mills, Campus Activities Board Outstanding Member; Courtney Griffin, University Police Department Student Assistant of the Year.
      DENHAM SPRINGS: Aaron Palmer, Interfraternity Council Greek Olympiad Award.
      GONZALES: Jennifer Williams, Student Foundation Leadership Award.
      HAMMOND: Lee Lind, “LeSouvenir” Editor Service Award; Sana Osmanovic, Lion’s Roar Layout Editor Service Award.
      IOWA: Mekeitta Darbonne, Student Foundation Leadership Award.
      LAPLACE: Johnny Peppo, “Lion’s Roar” Editor Servic Award
      LULING: Mindi Batson, David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship.
      NEW ORLEANS: Mia Lewis, Pan-Hellenic Council Greek Olumpiad Award.
      PONCHATOULA: Laura Jenkins, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award; Bub Tucker, Sammy Genco Memorial Flag Football MVP Award.
      PRAIRIEVILLE: Stephanie Perry, Student Foundation Leadership Award; Elizabeth Chatagnier, William Hodding Carter Award. 
      RESERVE: Carl N. Baker Jr., Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.
      SLAUGHTER: Kristi Mitchell, Panhellenic Council Greek Olympiad Award. SLIDELL: Christopher Bech, David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship.
