SOUTHEASTERN STUDENT AFFAIRS HONORS (Calcasieu) – Makietta Darbonne of Iowa was named the Outstanding Woman of the Year at the Southeastern Louisiana University Division of Student Affairs spring awards convocation. SOUTHEASTERN STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT STUDENT AFFAIRS HONORS CONVOCATION
        HAMMOND – Three Southeastern Louisiana University students were recognized for outstanding achievements at the university’s Division of Student Affairs Honors Convocation held on campus recently.
        Makietta Ann Darbonne, a criminal justice major from Iowa, La., was named the Outstanding Woman of the Year. Don Elbers, a computer science major from Mandeville, and Daniel Alford Roberts, a business graduate student from Kentwood, were named Outstanding Men of the Year.
        Also recognized at the ceremony were 37 recipients of Green “S” Awards for student leadership, 28 students named to “Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges,” and other departmental award and scholarship recipients.
        Darbonne, who was also selected for the university’s African American Alumni Chapter Role Model Award, is secretary of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and a member of the Ladies of the Green and Gold, Gamma Beta Phi Service and Honor Society, the Student Judicial Review Board and other university and community organizations.
        A senior, Elbers holds a 4.0 grade point average. President of Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society, he is vice president of Upsilon Pi Epsilon Computer Science Honor Society. Elbers is a trombonist for a number of university musical ensembles, including the Wind Symphony and the Spirit of the Southland Marching Band. 
        Roberts is vice president of CAB and the MANEiacs, a student spirit organization for athletics. He is a member of the MBA Society, College Republicans, and Baptist Collegiate Ministries. 
        The Division of Student Affairs Community Partner Award went to the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center for their work in assisting the University with in raising suicide awareness and prevention.
        Gamma Beta Phi Society awards for outstanding teaching went to Barbara Burns of the Department of History and Political Science and Brandi Roberts of the Department of Accounting. Receiving the Faculty Advisor of the Year Award was Terry Passman for his work with Kappa Alpha Order.
        Recognized with the Student Organizations’ Awards of Excellence were Campus Activities Board, Gamma Beta Phi, Phi Mu Fraternity, and Theta Phi Alpha. The Male Greek Championship Award went to Kappa Alpha, and the Female Greek Championship Award was presented to Alpha Sigma Tau.
        Departmental award and scholarship recipients were:
        AMITE – Megan McClendon, Student Foundation Leadership Award.
        BOGALUSA – Adam Grantham, Recreational Sports and Wellness Employee of the Year.
        CHALMETTE – Jennifer Culotta, Student Foundation Leadership Award; James Moeller, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award; James Moeller, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.
        DESTREHAN – Jeff Vitrano, Steve Gjenero Accomplishment Award, Sammy Genco Memorial Flag Football MVP Award.
        FOLSOM – Gary Prescott, Student Foundation Leadership Award.
        FRANKLINTON – Melinda Larsen, David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship.
        GARYVILLE – Brett Guidry, Student Publications Service Award as senior photographer.
        GONZALES – Jennipher Williams, David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship. 
        HAMMOND – Travis Bush, Campus Activities Board Outstanding Member; Tyler Vial, Student Foundation Leadership Award.
        HAHNVILLE – Renee Allemand, Student Publications Service Award as assistant editor and web developer, Lion’s Roar.
        HARVEY – Dana Keller, Ms. Pan-Hellenic.
        HOLDEN – Lisa Surrency, Greek Woman of the Year.
        IOWA – Makeitta Darbonne, Outstanding Woman of the Year Award, African American Alumni Chapter Role Model Award, David “Wolfie” Philippe Memorial Scholarship. 
        LIVINGSTON – Daniel R. Brown, Service Award, Student Publications Service Award as  Lion’s Roar editor.
        KENTWOOD – Daniel Roberts, Outstanding Man of the Year.
        MANDEVILLE –Don Elbers, Outstanding Man of the Year; Cliff Lloyd, Greek Man of the Year; Tyler Simpson, University Police Department Student Assistant of the Year.
        MERAUX – Krystal Boothe, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.

        PONCHATOULA – Kimberly Dottolo, Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.
