The honor, which includes a $500 stipend, goes to an English major who shares the “passion for literature” and love of travel that characterized the award’s namesake, the late John Coumes, a Southeastern graduate, long-time English professor and Ponchatoula resident. Cutrer, whose poetry has been accepted for publication in the “Connecticut Review,” said he will use the award funds to attend summer poetry workshops in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
