SOUTHEASTERN CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS SET FOR MARCH 20
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University cheerleading tryouts are set for March 20, announced Southeastern head coach Lorry Perry.
Prior to the tryouts, prospective team members must attend three days of clinics, scheduled from 6-8 p.m., March 16-18 in the Billups Room, located on the south end of the west side of Strawberry Stadium. Those trying out must attend all three clinics, with no exceptions allowed.
At the clinics, prospective cheerleaders will be taught a cheer, chant, and the Southeastern Fight Song. They will be judged on crowd appeal, spirit, personality, motions, sharpness, execution and overall appearance. Required stunts include a toss to hands extension, any toss stunt and one optional stunt. Stunts will be judged on difficulty, execution and dismount. The ability to perform a standing back handspring is also required. Prospective cheerleaders will be scored on their performance on a 100-point scale.
Prospective cheerleader must be enrolled or plan to be enrolled as a full-time student and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Twelve half-tuition scholarships are available.
