HAMMOND -- Bev Marshall, a resident
of Ponchatoula and former member of Southeastern Louisiana University’s
English faculty, will sign her new novel, “Right as Rain,” Thursday, April
29 at Sims Memorial Library.
The book signing, which will
also include a talk by the author, will begin at 2 p.m. on the library’s
third floor.
A Mississippi native and a graduate
of the University of Mississippi and of Southeastern, Marshall’s short
stories have appeared in a number of publications and books, including
“Xavier Review,” “Potpourri,” “Maryland Review,” “Acts of Discovery,” and
the anthology “Stories from the Blue Moon Café.”
Her first novel, “Walking Through
Shadows,” was a July/August 2002 Booksense selection, an alternate selection
of the Literary Guild, a finalist for the Florida Parishes Regional Arts
Award for Literature, and was selected by the Times-Picayune as one of
the best debut novels of 2002.
“Right as Rain,” published April
1 by Ballantine Books, is described as a “heartfelt story of two African
American women, their families, and the white family who employs them as
they navigate life.”
