SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES HONORS TOP STUDENTS
       HAMMOND – Sandy Blanchard, a music major from Hammond, was the recipient of the 2005 Dean's Award, the top honor of Southeastern Louisiana University=s College of Arts and Sciences. 
Blanchard was among the students from 11 of the college’s departments recognized at the annual Arts and Sciences honors convocation on April 25.
       Blanchard has a 4.0 grade point average and studies piano and violin. She teaches at the Hammond Montessori School and at Southeastern’s Community Music School, where she was herself a student before enrolling at Southeastern. 
       Arts and Sciences also joined its sister colleges at Southeastern in recognizing an outstanding alumnus. Leon Anderson, who received his master’s degree at Southeastern in 1996, is director of jazz studies at Florida State University and an internationally acclaimed percussionist. While at Southeastern, Anderson studied with mentor Ellis Marsalis and Victor Goines of the New Orleans jazz scene. Currently, he performs and tours nationally and internationally with Marsalis, Goines, Walter Payton and the Snapbean Band, and the Third Coast Jazz Quintet.
       Also at the convocation, the College of Arts and Sciences recognized inductees of the honor societies Phi Kappa Phi and the Thirteen Club, as well as Dean’s List honor roll students.
       Departmental award and scholarship recipients were:
       AMITE – Jodi Manton, D Vickers Award for Creative Writing; Katie Dyer, Frederick William Reimers Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Cultural Resource Management.
       BATON ROUGE – Lindsey Stewart, Outstanding Freshman in Mathematics; Kayla Estess, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication.
       COVINGTON – Lacy McWilliams, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Biology; Teri Kron, Excellence in Liberal Arts Studies; Marguerite Brudahl, Excellence in English Education; Kristen Hilliard, Ralph R. Pottle Honors Scholarship.
       DESTREHAN – Laurie Weber, Distinction in Digital Design.
       FOLSOM – Lauren Carson, Excellence in English.
       HAMMOND – Robbie Beyl, Mark Dugopolski Sophomore Award in Mathematics; Amanda Tarver, James Wilcox Award in Music; Stephanie Robertson, Northshore Chorale Scholarship; Sarah Osterberger, Northshore Chorale Scholarship; Blaire Abene, Thomas Sharp Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Music.
       LACOMBE – Grace Donnelly, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Communication.
       LULING – Mindi Batson, Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award in Psychology.
       MANDEVILLE – Jessie Lender, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Mathematics.
       NEW IBERIA – William S. Shensky, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Chemistry.
