SOUTHEASTERN WAY BACK WHEN -- A aerial shot of Southeastern Louisiana University
-- then Southeastern Louisiana College -- taken prior to 1938 before the construction of many of
the landmark buildings of today. McGehee Hall, built in 1934, dominates the scene, along with
the "Old Women's Gym," at right, which was built in 1933 and was destroyed by a fire in the late
1960s. Southeastern has begun to plan the 75th anniversary celebration of the university's
founding as Hammond Junior College in 1925. The 75th Anniversary will be observed from Jan.
1, 2000 to Jan. 1, 2001. Anyone who has old photographs of Southeastern that they would like to
share with the anniversary planning committee may contact chairman Vic Couvillion at
504-345-8127 or viccou@i-55.com; the Public Information Office at 504-549-2341 or
publicinfo@selu.edu or the Alumni Association at 1-800-SLU-ALUM.
