Welcome to the Project CYPRESS Home Page!!

Project CYPRESS is a LaSIP professional development program that is reform oriented, content driven, and dedicated to the advancement of Mathematics and Science Education in the state of Louisiana.
Recently the National Science Foundation (1990) expressed concern that too many of today's school children do not have sufficient background in or positive attitudes toward science and math.  Project CYPRESS aims to supply middle and high school teachers with some methods and tools to make science and math more fun and interesting.

Project CYPRESS uses ecology, in general, and wetlands ecology, in particular, to make natural connections between biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics, and physics.  The acronym CYPRESS stands for Communities lead by Youth Pursuing Restoration of Ecologically Sustainable Systems.
