      Architect as Artist

An architect is trained in the arts: design, drawing, sculpture as well structures, architectural history, and materials. Craftsmanship is stressed in all aspects of their training. Architects are taught to think in three dimensions (3-D).
They constantly work with the basic elements of art: color, value, line, shape, form, texture, and space, as well as the principles of design: balance, emphasis, harmony, movement, pattern, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety.
Additionally, the computer is an integral tool in today's architectural firms. This vehicle generates design concepts, preliminary drawings, detailed drawings, specifications, and presentation materials, all created by the architect.
