WHEREAS the Faculty Senate has previously recommended that the University enact a two year textbook rental adoption cycle, rather than the current three year adoption period; and
WHEREAS the Faculty Senate recognizes that this change would have financial implications for the University’s Auxiliary Services (Textbook Rental Area) regarding both cost associated with more frequent acquisition of new textbooks and revenue associated with renting each textbook for a two year period, rather than for a three year period; and
WHEREAS the Faculty Senate recognizes that the change to a two year adoption period would have financial implications for students regarding the amount of fees charged for textbook rentals; and
WHEREAS the Faculty Senate recognizes the need to balance the benefit to faculty and students of a two year textbook adoption cycle with the cost associated with this change;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED THAT the Faculty Senate endorse the University Rental Textbook Committee’s recommendation of a two year textbook rental adoption cycle and an increase in student rental fees to no more than $25 per course.
