Monthly Faculty Senate President Scholar Award

The April recipient of the Faculty Senate President Award is Dr. Gerlinde Beckers (Department of Teaching and Learning). 

Dr. Gerlinde Beckers is an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching & Learning. This is her fourth year at Southeastern. Her primary research focus area is struggling adolescent readers and effective instructional practices. She has been awarded on $608,000 is external funding. She is currently investigating the self-efficacy of middle school teacher candidates in implementing book clubs in high-poverty schools through Project ROAR: Rediscovering Opportunities and Attitudes for Reading. Project ROAR is funded thought Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant. In addition, she is the principal investigator for Project LION: Learning in our Neighborhood a Community Partnership funded by Entergy Charitable Foundation. Project LION provides structured after-school program for at-risk middle school students within the Hammond Community. Dr. Beckers has numerous publications and has presented at the international, national, regional, and state level.

The February recipient of the Faculty Senate President Award is Dr. Rhett Allain (Department of Chemistry and Physics). 


Monthly Faculty Senate President Scholar Award

The January recipient of the Faculty Senate President Award is Associate Professor Ephraim Massawe (Department of Computer Science and Industrial Technology). Dr. Massawe possesses expertise in safety, health and environment; industrial hygiene/exposure and risk assessments; synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials; toxic chemicals; current Issues in environmental and public health; and air/water/soil pollution control.

The December recipient of the Faculty Senate President Award is Associate Professor Holly Kihm (College of Nursing and Health Sciences/Department of Health and Human Sciences).
